Staff Stories

I came to CPLV in 2004 with a college friend (who had been going to camp for years). I’ll admit it- at first it was hard to be the new girl. But quickly, I was embraced by the Poyntelle community and I fell in love with it. Throughout my 8 years at camp, I experienced so many of my favorite memories and met some of my best friends in the world.  Not only did I make long lasting friendships, I also made 1 very special relationship. It was at Camp Poyntelle where I met my husband! We got married last Spring, and 3 of my bridesmaids and about half of the guests were camp friends. To say that Camp Poyntelle has made a positive impact on my life is an understatement!  – Dara Staff 04-11

I remember my first summer at camp. I was sitting next to another counselor and she told me she had been coming to camp for 11 years. I asked her why she comes back every year. She then responded and said “I’m not coming back, I’m coming home.” Since then I have now been coming to camp for six years and the reason I now give people is that camp gives me a sense of HOME. CPLV is a place where I can challenge myself, affect kids lives and help them grow every single day, there is truly no better feeling. – Daniel Staff 06-12

CPLV, my home, my first love. It’s so hard to truly express how I feel about this place, because words can’t even describe how much I truly love camp. CPLV has shaped me into the person I am today. Camp gave me the confidence I need to succeed in the real world, and has shown me what it’s like to be independent. Whenever I talk about my experiences at CPLV, it brings tears to my eyes. I get very emotional because of how passionate I am about my job, the staff and especially the campers. I first started out as a camper in Lewis Village, not knowing anyone, and now 15 years later, I still fall in love with the camp summer after summer. I have met the greatest people spending my summers at CPLV, and I know they will be in my life forever. When I see the same campers and counselors return every summer, it makes me so happy, because I know they love camp as much as I do. I would recommend to anyone who has the opportunity to be a camper, and staff member at CPLV, because this place will change your life forever.  – Brooke 01-12

Being able to say that I worked at Camp Poyntelle Lewis Village for six summers is an honor in and of its self. I’ve had the unique fortune of working along side some incredible people, who all along have shared my drive and commitment to improving the lives of campers. To this point, working at CPLV has been the only form of professional development that I have had. Nonetheless, it has molded my character and provided me with guidance, just as I hope I have succeeded in doing with my campers. I attribute most of what I’ve learned in life to my summers spent at CPLV, both as a camper and especially as a staff member. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing. – Sam, Staff 06-11
